Catholic Diocese of Alexandria Office Building

The five component parts are planned as separate distinct pavilions arranged simply along a glass spine.  Landscaped courtyards are thus created between the three solid elements.  The daily mass Chapel sits in a walled meditation garden.

The taller Administration Pavilion, approached by a brick walk, contains the Bishop’s Chancery Offices; it is both symbolic and ceremonial.  The public spaces, i.e., meeting rooms, the Tribunal and the Chapel form a group in the west pavilion, near the parking lot.  The larger East pavilion houses the more private Operations and Ministries offices.

The Architectural materials include St. Joe Brick, glazed brick accent coursing and Ludowici clay tile roof.  Bronze tinted insulation glass is used throughout.  The simple mix of material, complex roof forms, and asymmetrical juxtaposition of solid masonry and glass result in a relaxed environment enlivened by abundant natural light.
